About Dr. Kaufman
Over 25 Years of Public Health Success
I work at the intersection of health systems, policy, and community health. My main focus is eliminating health inequities, which cannot be accomplished without addressing the needs of low-income and minority residents, and the systems that should serve them. With knowledge of both academic and on the ground public health practice, I develop and improve projects, programs, and organizations.
Battle Tested
Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program
Took over state health department program, and increased the number of low-income, un- and under insured women screened by over 1000% through academic, healthcare system, and community-based partnerships. Contributed to the decrease in mortality rate for Black women in Louisiana. Only state in CDC’s National Breast in and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program to operate outside of the state health department (2002-2010).
Screen Up (Louisiana Colorectal Health Project)
Secured funding for and directed statewide, CDC-funded colorectal cancer screening project. Partnered with federally qualified health centers and other health systems to increase colorectal cancer screening rates. Partner clinics increased screening rates faster than the state average for federally qualified health systems; they averaged an increase of 33% each year (2016-2020).
